Located about 7 kilometres from the city of Trivandrum ( Now, Thiruvananthapuram), India, Veli Lake is an inland lake separated by a narrow sand bar from the Arabian Sea. The place where the lake meets with the sea or in other words, the confluence of the lake with the sea has been developed as a scenic and beautiful picnic spot, named Veli Tourist Village.
Recreational facilities in Veli lake
The Veli Tourist Village is a prominent tourist destination in Kerala. Veli offers myriad attractions for the quintessential backpacker. Numerous facilities have been provided for adventure sports in the lagoon. An 18-acre waterfront park with a floating bridge connects the tourist village to the beach. The tourist village provides an array of boating facilities such as motor-driven safari launches, pedal boats and paddleboats, that could be hired to explore the lagoon with comfort and ease. And in case you want to take a quick ride, speedboats are also available for hire, and that too at extremely cost-effective rates. The eastern flank of the lake has two beautiful hillocks, which are good for hiking. You can also go for Kayaking or hovercraft ride if you wish to. The lake also has a floating restaurant and a floating bridge that connects the tourist village with the beach.

The Veli Lake has a wonderful landscaped garden with beautifully carved sculptures and a hanging bridge. Veli lake coast is also renowned for its rare mangrove thickets. There is also a beautiful children's park, aesthetically designed pavements and lush lawns.

By Rail: Kochuveli Railway Station (3 km from Veli) and Kazhakuttam Railway Station (4 km) are located to the south and north respectively. Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station is 8 km away. Veli Railway Station falls on the railway line that connects Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. Passenger trains such as Thiruvananthapuram-Kottayam Passenger, Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam Passenger and Madurai-Kollam Passenger have stoppage at this station.
By Road: Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus Station is the nearest main bus terminal.
