Jobs that complement marketing
Jobs that complement marketing

There are still many marketing only focused jobs, but if you perform a basic job search in this area you will find that some job roles are starting to cross over. Candidates should see this as a positive thing because it allows them to use different skills if they wish to. The marketing jobs arena is becoming much more specialised and this is partly because of the internet. For example, some companies employ people purely to perform email marketing on a full time basis.

The aim of this article is to outline what jobs complement marketing and what new job roles we are starting to see.

Office Manager

This may seem like a strange partnership, but when you think about some of the things an office manager might do it makes sense. Office managers must make sure that the office functions properly and part of their job is to keep spreadsheets up to date. They may for example be asked to update marketing databases and contact details of potential clients.

Some employers will ask office managers to manage email marketing campaigns or even write press releases. Therefore, if you have good organisational, people and communication skills and a passion for marketing then this mix of roles could be perfect for you.

Search Engine Marketing

Due to the fact that search engine optimisation is becoming vital to the success of any business there are new roles emerging. More and more companies are employing marketing candidates in search engine optimisation roles. They may have no other work except to improve rankings for the employer or clients.

On the other hand, many employers now see SEM as a main part of their marketing plan. Therefore they are starting to expect marketing specialists to have a good working knowledge of search engine optimisation.

Sales

If you are looking for marketing jobs then you might start to see roles that require you to have sales experience. This is because a marketer should be motivated by sales and have a good understanding of what marketing techniques are most likely to increase sales. A marketing manager needs to be able to communicate with the sales team and have a strong knowledge of what it is they are marketing and selling.

Social Media

Social media is gradually becoming a useful marketing strategy so don't be surprised to find marketing jobs that ask for a knowledge of social media.
