Social Media Marketing: How to Deliver Value to Your Target Market
By Jason-Dennis Stewart
If you are a business owner, I'm sure that you know it is necessary to market your products, services, or opportunities in order to gain exposure and success in your business. In this new internet age where business owners can connect directly with and receive feedback from their target audience, social media sites have become a great venue to gain exposure. However, presenting your opportunity incorrectly could spell disaster for your reputation and your brand image. Perhaps one of the biggest differences that business owners should keep in mind when implementing social media marketing strategies is that social media is all about building relationships. Unlike traditional marketing techniques, there is a two-way exchange of information. As a business owner, you will present content to the social media community, and the community will have the opportunity to give feedback immediately. As a result, a business owner must keep a few key elements in mind when beginning to market on social media.
Give Before You Get: This is possibly the most important point to understand, yet the most difficult point to accept. Many marketers think that the best way to get someone to buy or partner with them is to immediately tell them about the opportunity that they are marketing. However, much of your target market as a business owner and networker will be other business owners. These business owners could very likely be looking to use the social media site to gain knowledge, tactics, and strategies that they use will use in their own businesses. In short, they are looking for help and guidance. If you become a constant source of helpful information, you become valuable to the community. Once you have spent the time creating this value and establishing relationships, your target audience will be much more receptive to your marketing. In many cases, they will ask for guidance and ways that they may partner with you.
Do Not "Spam": Most everyone who operates on social media sites at any level will tell you that they do not want to receive "spam", however, there are still many that deliver it. I believe that most people guilty of "spamming" do not have any malicious intent; they just do not fully understand what it means to "spam". Here are a few hints in that regard. Unsolicited emails, comments, or private messages that speak directly about your business or opportunity are spam. Posting a self-serving video on another user's page or in a forum is also spam.
Stay Consistent in Your Activity: When you are focusing on giving great content to your social media community, it is important that you keep your presence strong by being active in the community by generating valuable posts as well as commenting on and sharing the valuable content of other leaders. As I stated above, it is all about establishing relationships, and few relationships in the social media realm are as valuable as the relationships that you make with other leaders in the community. However, do not sacrifice the quality of your content for the sake of putting out a lot of content. Take your time and pay close attention to whatever you post in the social media community since it may very well circulate among many thousands of users over time, and each reader will develop an opinion of you based on the content.
Take these tips under consideration when marketing and promoting via social media. Protect your name as a leader and you value you as a member of the community. Good luck, and I wish you much success in your business.
