subject: The Different Types Of Advertising Techniques [print this page]

Advertising has become an integral part of every corporate and business. Owners and executives spend a considerable amount of money to promote their products and services. Through different advertising techniques, the consumers are informed of the nature of the products and services including the benefits they can gain.

Advertising also establishes the brand identity, and notify the consumers of some changes of the products or services. Among the many benefits of using different advertising techniques, the increase in sales is the fundamental objective.

At most, media is the primary and popular outlet to channel the advertisement since it can reach a wide variety of audience.

The following are the types of advertising techniques:

Print Advertisement. This includes the Newspapers, Tabloids, Magazines, Flyers, Brochures, Filters and Pamphlets.

The last three are considered minor outlet which can be inserted into magazines and newspapers.

Advertising through publication is a common practice because of its broad marketing coverage. If the business or corporate needs immediate advertisement, newspaper is the best medium to use. It also offers flexibility in ad size, short lead time, color, and visibility of product. What it lacks though are the lack of movement and sound, limited demographics and one day visibility.

Broadcast Advertisement. Some advertising techniques can cover broadcast media like television, radio and internet. Television and Radio offers air time for product or service exposure.

Advertisement on broadcast media provides high frequency, audio and visual arts and wider demographics. Television advertisement is among the most expensive, hence, the exposure is limited.

Radio advertisement offers audio features to make the message reached its audience. The audience coverage is as wide as its broadcasting capacity. Its drawbacks, however, include limited message length, cluttered placement of message and the need for repetition.

The internet is also a great place to advertise. It offers even wider audience coverage and is flexible. Imagine placing ads on the internet and people across the world can view and know about it.

Moreover, internet advertising techniques provide the business owners the opportunity to build their credibility. Depending on its other business and marketing software, ads on the internet can stimulate [and even support] purchases right then and there.

Outdoor Advertisement. To this group belong the billboards, tradeshows, exhibits, kiosks and other events. The billboard offers flexibility ad size. However, since it does not offer motion or audio, the message should be attractive to catch the attention of passerby.

That is why, many celebrities grace the billboard signage.

Kiosks, exhibit and trade shows are great place to promote the product and service.

It is also more personal because the staff can interact and engage in conversations with potential clients, thereby establishing rapport and trust.

Social Advertisement. Another word for this advertising technique is informercial. It informs the public of any relevant social concerns and issues.

It invokes social awareness such as global warming, energy conservation, nature conservation, AIDS, famine, poverty, illiteracy and political integrity. Simply put, it seeks to educate the public.

Sponsorship. Some products and services are incorporated in shows, movies, and sports to establish and promote the brand.

Among the advertising techniques, sponsoring an actor or a show provides indirect, yet, effective advertisement.
