Too often we are overwhelmed in our lives. So much so that the burdens of life, the burden of responsibility, of adulthood, of childhood, of jobs, of possessions, of religion, of faith and of friendships seems to swamp over us. We lose view of the things that matter, seeing only those things that we are obliged to do.
We lose sight of why we are doing all that we do. We lose sight of our passion and our love that is the driving force. It is this passion, this love that has us taking on so much; taking on the responsibilities that can overwhelm us, the things that stress us.
Life can be a frightening thing, and it sometimes seems like we are facing it all alone. We are all trying so hard to survive, to achieve our goals that we lose sight of why we are even fighting.
And then, comes Thanksgiving. We are a blessed nation that we have one day set aside specifically to give thanks for all that we have. It is that one day, that makes us stop and look at what we have. Everything that we have suffered in the past year, past month, past week seems to fade away and we must focus on what we have been blessed with.
We forget the pain, the failures, the deaths, the fear and anger we have endured, seeing what all those things have gained us. Of the friendships we have cultivated, the family that remains around us. Of the family that has passed on and left us with love or lessons from the past, the small things in life that have made us who we are.
We gather together with friends and family, exchange laughter and hope, and for one day, we are grateful to be alive and blessed.
For we are alive, and blessed. Happy Thanksgiving!
