Adventure in Yangshuo, China

To start with, the village has picturesque views along with a relaxing atmosphere. During the Spring holiday (also known as the Chinese New Year), everyone from the local community comes home and the village becomes busy and happening. Yangshuo village (located near Guilin city) has an even bigger change in people as part of the summer months, often reaching several times the number of its original residents.

River Li runs through the village, making it an ideal relaxation spot for tourists, where bamboo raft cruises can be hired for less than 100RMB (price depends on your negotiation skills). The cruise takes you through the gigantic hills and fishing villages, which are on either side of the river, making a breathtaking backdrop.

Cormorant fishing is also one of the main draws of Yangshuo village that would be an absolute shame to miss. Traditionally the fishermen use trained cormorants in addition to their fishing nets. For visitors they normally fish during the evening at dusk. However, as it is rather hard to get photographs of the birds or the fishing in the evening, you are also able to get pictures with these birds on the river bank.

Moon Hill village which is neighbouring to Yangshuo also attracts a large amount of visitors. This village has managed to retain authenticity being a much smaller place in comparison to Yanshauo, and being a little out of the way for most activities so it is less popular for tourists to stay over. Unless of course absolute relaxation is what you want then Moon Hill village is the better location to stay, and travel to Yangshuo at your will for its excitement. A short bike ride takes you to Yangshuo village from Moon Hill, this is one of the popular activities of the area.
