I used to wash dishes, sweep the floor and serve tea and snacks at the local tea shop. For a meal I was made to work for 12 hours. Hunger, pain and exhaustion were my constant companions.
Frequent scolding and beating brought hot tears to my eyes. The dirty kitchen, the awful voice and the constant growling in my stomach are now a distant memory.
Now I hold my pen in my hand and write with pride. I raise my book and read loud. I have a good meal with my friends. All these because I go to school and I go to school because of Akshaya Patra. There are many like me out there who has a brighter future due to Akshaya Patra.
