While some people are not all that fond of bulldogs simply because of the snorting and heavy breathing they do thanks to their their pushed-in snout, still others can't get enough of this adorable breed. Since having a bulldog is not always feasible, a bulldog stuffed animal is the next best thing; you get to have something that looks like the real thing without having to deal with all the care and expense that goes along with it.
The early history of the English bulldog wasn't a pleasant one - the breed was originally used for dog fighting and bull baiting. It's believed the bulldog originated in the British Isles and because of the kind of 'work' it did, it was quite aggressive and not considered a companion animal. The breed was in danger of disappearing after the outlaw of dog fighting but dog enthusiasts went on to both develop and improve it. Throughout the 20th century, the bulldog increased in popularity and was transformed from the once fierce breed it had been, to the friendly one we know today.
The English bulldog and the American bulldog are not the same, though they are related. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes only one of the breeds the one with the characteristics of the English version of the animal versus the taller, Boxer-like breed found in the United States. Other groups, however, do recognize both breeds CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) and UKC (United Kennel Club).
The English Bulldog is easily recognizable thanks to its unique large head and short snout. It's also short in stature and muscular. While it looks tough, it's quite lovable. Despite the fact that it has a very short coat which requires very little grooming, it's still prone to shedding. Because of the folds of skin which are found on its face and body, the Bulldog can be prone to infections which means it would benefit greatly from lots of bathing.
As far as temperament goes, the Bulldog is calm and friendly, but it's also easily excited and distracted. Like with any type of dog, obedience training would be ideal for both the breed and its owner.
Bulldogs are known as real couch potatoes and as is the case, can become overweight. While exercise is a must, it has to be done cautiously given the dog can easily overheat thanks to it's short, stubby nose and possible airway problems.
The Bulldog stuffed animal has been designed with the real thing in mind it has its signature looks including its stubby nose and body wrinkles. Also like the real thing, the Bulldog stuffed animal is one lovable pup, ready to take all you can give it.
