Chiropractic Career Training Availability

Students that want to help heal patients naturally from a variety of ailments can enter career training in several areas. Chiropractic care is one popular option that students can obtain an education in. The training requirements are specific and are met by only a select few accredited colleges.

The industry of chiropractic care requires students to work through a doctorate program, which awards a doctor of chiropractic degree. Training is required and students can follow a specific educational path to enter the field as chiropractic practitioners. Students will learn to properly identify medical problems and understand how to treat them. Coursework explores the musculoskeletal system and how it affects the nervous system and health of patients. The spinal column is broken down into parts so students can learn to manipulate it correctly.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics only 16 chiropractic programs have obtained accreditation by the Council on Chiropractic Education as of 2009. Along with this limited amount of programs most colleges only accept a specific number of new students each year, which may vary according to the program selected. To gain admittance students are required to complete undergraduate training.

The minimum requirement for all programs is 90 credit hours. Most students complete a bachelor's degree program with coursework focusing heavily on biology, chemistry, and anatomy. Education is obtainable from a pre-chiropractic degree program, which may result in either an associate's or bachelor's degree. Students learn the relationship between the nervous, skeletal, and muscular systems. Education introduces students to performing physical exams and diagnosing patients. Students should complete an undergraduate training program based on the requirements of the graduate school they plan to attend. Doctor of chiropractic programs at each available school may require certain courses or a specific undergraduate degree to be completed.

Once admittance into a doctorate program student's will be immersed in learning to diagnose and treat patients. Education centers on providing students with the knowledge needed to examine a patient's health and determine what type of spinal adjustment would be best for them. This is learned through several courses, which may include:

Physiology

Neurology

Nutrition

Students study all chiropractic techniques in order to fully understand how to help a patient according to their case. Activator, pro-adjuster, active release, soft tissue, and specific diversified techniques are all studied inside a natural healing program. The last two years of education have students taking the knowledge they learned and practicing on real patients. Students work under supervision to gain practical experience before they enter careers. The last part of education has students obtaining their licensure, which is a state requirement to practice as chiropractors. Upon completion of a holistic healing program students are required to pass a four-part exam administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

The limited availability of accredited chiropractic programs makes it highly important that students complete the proper undergraduate training. accredited schools and colleges can provide the quality education that is needed to succeed. Full accreditation is awarded by The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) and other agencies. Research college options and begin the process of becoming a chiropractor.
