Deciding on the Perfect Bathroom Tile

Choosing the perfect bathroom tile may sound like a simple task but once you're presented with all of your options from shape, size, finish, and texture choosing a tile is anything but simple.

Most standard tiles are square or rectangle in shape, however handmade tiles can be irregular in shape for decorative purposes. To give your space an effect in width or height than choosing a rectangle shaped tile would be in your best interest. When considering the size for your tile you should base it on the size of the space you are working with. For relatively small spaces deciding to install larger tiles will give your bathroom the illusion of a larger surface area.

Tiles can come in glossy, matte, metallic, iridescent or printed finishes. Glossy finishes are luminous and shiny, however are not recommended for floors or counter tops. The reason glossy finishes work better as tile backsplashes is because glossy tiles are prone to scratches and cracks. Matte finishes are not as bright and can be used in all types of applications. Eye catching finishes like the metallic and iridescent finishes, reflect light and create an appearance no guest will be able to ignore. Printed finishes are exactly as they sound. They consist of screen printed words or images featured on the tile.

Textures can create a unique look for your bathroom making it stand out compared to other homes. Such textures include flat, rippled, low, random, and relief. Flat tiles are smooth, rippled and random tiles consist of noticeable textures such as irregular cuts and peaks. Relief tiles are typically used as border and can be molded into shapes like ceramic and glass tiles can.

With so many different choices with the right combinations of shape, size, finish and texture your bathroom tile will be able to stand out from all the rest. However, before you make any decisions it is always a good idea to consult your contractor on tile materials and size because they can offer a better insight on what will work better and look nicer in your bathroom.
