subject: Can You Cure Adult Acne With A Natural Acne Treatment? [print this page]

Are adult acne sufferers forced to be forever doing the rounds of doctors and dermatologists trying prescriptions that often do not work and can have adverse side effects? Do they have to be forever on the look out for the latest miracle drug, lotion or cream that they find does not provide a permanent cure? Is there a natural acne treatment that actually works?

Diet could be the key

Many adult acne sufferers know that certain foods aggravate their condition. The evidence cannot be ignored as it has come from a great many people. Many people have found their condition worsened after eating some food and, conversely, it improved when these foods were avoided. If they told their doctors, their doctors would probably tell them there was no connection. The acne sufferers were probably right as recent evidence does show a connection. Studies by a research team at Australia's RMIT University and Royal Melbourne Hospital Department of Dermatology has shown a solid link between diet and acne. Findings of the study were presented at the 15th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology in Greece and published in the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Even though there is still more work needed, the research clearly indicated:

1. A high GI diet of highly refined carbohydrates such as white sugar, white flour, and sugar drinks, caused breakouts

2. A healthy, low GI diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish and seafood reduced acne significantly

3. The young men in the study group who stuck to a healthy diet had 50% less acne over the 12 week period and their self-esteem and sense of wellbeing improved

The right diet is only one of the steps needed to cure adult acne in a natural way. The formation and cure of acne are complex issues but, for most sufferers, the existing pharmaceutical treatments do not give long-lasting relief. They do not approach the problem in a holistic way. They do not get to the root cause. Many doctors who did not believe diet had an effect on acne now acknowledge the research indicates otherwise. Most of their previous knowledge is based on very old studies dating back to the late sixties and seventies but, as we have seen, more recent studies have shown that diet has a vital role to play.

Changing to a healthier diet could be the first step to curing adult acne with a natural acne treatment.
