It was only really a matter of time before a Hollywood A-lister ventured to the top of this now iconic Dubai landmark.
Tom Cruise is the man here, playing the role of suave spy Ethan Hunt, decked all in black pictured at the very summit of the world's tallest building snapped during the filming of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the fourth instalment in the espionage film franchise.
Dubai holidays give the opportunity to visit this epic attraction amongst others like Aquaventure at Atlantis, the Palm.
I ventured up to the top of the Burj Khalifa earlier this year but you wouldn't catch me doing stunts like this one, mind you I'm not paid millions of dollars so perhaps I could be persuaded!
What's perhaps more impressive is the fact that Cruise is 48 (years young) and yet still insisting on doing some of these frankly bonkers stunts himself. With his legs dangling over the side, Cruise waved to cameramen filming his exploits in a circling helicopter, while flashing his trademark smile. What a show off !
You can't help but take your hat off to the man, and some of the ladies may wish to take more than their hats off for him, but we won't dwell on that thought.
For one scene in particular, Cruise is chasing someone around the outside of the 2, 717 ft tower. As you do. That should make for a decent visual spectacle on the big screens when the movie is released in just over 12 months time on 16 December 2011.
