As a result of the rapidly evolving market in the world of technology, the volume of new printers as well as multi-function devices at Lexmark has significantly increased.
Released together with eight other new models, the Prevail is fully equipped with a variety of features which include a printer, a scanner and copier, fax, and a built-in Wi-Fi to name a few, this makes it perfect for home and office use.
We are somewhat impressed with the Prevail's clean, compact design and sleek black lines knowing that Lexmark is not known for pushing the limit of aesthetic perfection. The main control panel allows you to view photos with its 2.4 inch colour LCD screen and at the same time access the settings menu. There is also a PictBridge USB slot as well as a multi-card reader.
One of the most useful feature besides Wi-Fi is the "eco-mode", which dims the backlight, enables power-saving and forces double-sided printing plus a dedicated control to move between full colour and black and white prints. Installation is very simple as well as the navigation, and in most cases configuration can be done through the main controls on the device.
Additionally, you have to install Lexmark's Printer Home Software which offers various maintenance tools, advanced scan settings and the ability to convert a document to text through OCR. Otherwise print-settings via applications are kept pretty simple with four stages of quality, image enhancement as well as watermark formation.
Being ambitious has always been Lexmark's stance, especially when it comes to print speed quotations, however, in our tests it only reached half the target at 33ppm on draft and 15ppm on standard quality text printing. On a lighter side, photo prints were relatively fast, with a full colour A4 generated about a minute and a half, and for phoo-size images coming out in less than a minute.
The machine is equipped with a 150-sheet feed tray and a 50-sheet automatic document feeder which makes it capable of handling various media and print sizes, as well as larger scanning and copying jobs.
In terms of quality we had mixed feelings about the printer's capabilities. The text prints looked very good including clear text, substantial, text even at the lowest setting. However photos don't fare as well due to average colour reproduction and also inadequate separation of blacks and delicate shades, thus the Prevail won't go well with people who demand good performance in this area.
However, the Prevail do succeed in the range of really useful features it provides without having much troubles doing its individual jobs most of the time Though it doesn't excel in any area this is a good all-rounder suitable for workplace conditions that is eye-catching, simple to use and offers an outstanding selection of time-saving tools.
There are different capacities of 100 ink cartridges available for the PRO705 but the best value for money is the high capacity XL versions.
With its unique appeal and user-friendly operation, The lexmark prevail has marked its ground on the market. Inspite of its downsides, it would be well suited to low-yield office or home office environments where it is versatile enough to handle a range of tasks.Iit would be capable enough to handle printing requirements of low-yield offices or home office environments.
