subject: Two Staffing Agency Owners Banned From Running An Agency For 10 Years [print this page]

Two Scottish recruitment agency owners have been banned from running an employment agency the maximum possible 10 years. The couple, Glynn Davies and his wife Susan Davies had operated an entertainment and model agency for approximately 20 years, trading most recently as Emkay Entertainments. They had their case heard at Glasgow Employment Tribunal following an investigation by the Employment Agency Standards (EAS), which is part of the government's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Glynn Davies was convicted on 18th September 2009 at Edinburgh High Court of indecent assault against a 17 year old girl and taking pornographic photographs of her. He was also found guilty and convicted when it was discovered he had paedophiliac images and videos on his computers.

Glynn Davies received a sentence of 2 years imprisonment for the above sexual offences and was later released on 19th April 2010. Glynn Davies has also now been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and disqualified from working with children for indefinite periods.

The Glasgow Employment Tribunal made a split prohibition order, with conditions, against Mrs. Davies, for the maximum period of 10 years. This order prevents Mr. Davies from having right of entry to premises or contact with persons using an employment agency that Mrs. Davies might run during the 10 year period. This order was introduced to defend clients and potential clients in the future.

Danbros PAYE umbrella company Marketing Consultant, Alex Askew says, This is great news that the recruitment agency sector is being policed sufficiently and this should go as a warning to all that operate unlawfully; you will be found and must suffer the consequences.

- The EAS brought this case under the Employment Agencies Act 1973.
