Out of all the industries, jobs, and workers in the world, the fire fighting industry, fire departments, and fire fighters deserve it the most. Not only do they do a heroic job each and every day, but also they risk their lives each and every day. So they tend to rely on the equipment they're using on the job.
And with cheaper, less-functional fire helmets, gear, and tools, lives are put at a greater risk. It's a risk that never should be increased in the first place, but with budgetary problems across the country, it's an unfortunate oversight that doesn't seem to be resolving itself anytime soon.
Fire helmets, gear, and tools are the last pieces of equipment that any fire fighter wants to be unreliable. In fact, every piece of equipment that a fire fighter uses needs to be 100% reliable. With any other job, it's not a big deal, but for a fire fighter, it's a matter of life and death.
