Are you new to poker? Do you want to learn how to play this game and be an expert so that you can be winning games? If this is what you want then read on because this articles focus on the basics of playing poker. Before you learn how to play the game, you first need to understand what poker is. Poker in itself is not a game but is a game genre. There are several games which include Texas Holdem, Five Card Draw, Seven Card Stud, Omaha and several others. All of these games use the general rules of poker. Most of these games have the lowest card to be a two and the highest being an ace. All the cards have two important attributes either a card suit which is a diamond, spade or heart or a card rank which is normally the numerical value of the card. The cards are ranked as follows according to their values starting with the lowest to the highest, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, Queen, King, and Ace. In most poker games, a player is required to make a hand with series of 5 cards. One thing that you have to note is that the ace can be used as a high card when you want to form a Straight or straight flush. You may want to know what will happen if two or more players have the same hands. How will the winner be determined in such a case? If such a situation occurs when you are playing a game, the winner will be determined by the "kicker". For example if a player has A-A-K-8-3 and another player has A-A-J-3-2 then the player with K wins as this is the King. Although both players have a pair of ace, the player with King wins as a King is better than a Jack. If a kicker is also tied, the winner is determined by looking at the next highest card. There are ten types of hands which include the Pair, High Hand, Royal Flush, Straight, Flush, Four of a kind, Flush, Full House, Straight, and Three of a kind. In the Royal Flush hand, both the royal flushes and suits are equal. If there are two straight flushes, the best one will be that which has the higher top card. When determining the winning hand, the suit does not count as they are considered equal. If there are two players who have fours of a kind, the player who has the winning hand will be that one who has the higher ranking set.
