Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W Compact Monochrome Laser Printer

This lightweight unit, the Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W, is an average performer with a few additional tricks up its sleeve when compared to other desktop models in its price range. With a very small footprint and a great true print quality, the 1250W would be a nice addition to a home office.

The Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W takes up just 248 square inches of desk space thanks to its small footprint of 15.4 in. x 16.1 in. x 14.6 in. (W x D x H). Its weight of less than 19 pounds also makes it ideal for the buyer who could potentially require some degree of mobility in their device. The unit's advertised print speed is 17 pages per minute maximum for black and white text but, as is often the case, tests have shown lower performing results. PC Word magazine lists actual print speeds in the neighborhood of 12 pages per minute for text and 6 pages per minute for graphics, which seems reasonable.

Input capacity comes in the form of a rather small 150 sheet paper tray, but an optional second tray capable of storing 500 sheets of standard paper brings the Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W's potential paper storage total up to 650 sheets. Connectivity is also limited to a degree thanks to the unit's USB 1.1 port, but the device also includes a Parallel port and has an Ethernet option that allows users to decide if networking capabilities are right for them.

An unenhanced image quality of true 1200 x 1200 dots per inch is excellent for a machine of this size and magnitude, and is probably the most outstanding feature of the Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W. In order to take full advantage of the printer's high resolution, users will be inclined to utilize the device's manual feed slot which allows for a straight through paper path. While thicker media types such as card stock and transparencies are not compatible with the printer's standard paper tray, the manual feed slot allows thick or oddly sized paper to be printed on, allowing for a whole range of black and white imagery possibilities.

Both windows XP and Macintosh operating systems are compatible with the Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W, and the device comes with a limited warranty to ensure the maximum lifespan of the product, though Konica service plans are usually some of the less impressive ones available. They do offer 12 hour technical support via telephone, which is better than some other brands'.

The monochrome laser Konica Minolta PagePro 1250W is capable of printing to both legal size paper (8.5 in. x 14 in.) and A4 paper (8.25 in. x 11.7 in.). The unit includes 8 MBs of standard memory which can not be expanded, and comes at a price tag this is at least decent when considering the print specifications. While the device's print speeds are disappointing, it is important to recognize the extremely limited size of the unit, as it is easily one of the smallest laser printers available.
