Eye Glass frames trend through the 1950's

Expression of one's personality through eye glass frames is not something that is completely new. Celebrities like Elton John, Buddy Holly, Groucho Marx and Barry Goldwater used eye glass as a major part of their self expression and personal image since the 1950's.

United States Senator Barry Goldwater continued to wear his horn-rimmed glasses, even after being fitted with contact lenses because people could not recognize him without his trademark glasses. British soap star Anne Kirkbride also became well-known for her sporty eyeglasses and she was expected to wear them at social gatherings and in international appearances, despite wearing contact lenses. Comedian Drew Carey also continued to wear his metal eye glasses for the same reason after getting corrective laser eye surgery.

Browline eyeglasses were extremely popular in 1950s and 1960s and a large percentage of the bespectacled male population used them. In this 70's it was the horn rimmed glasses that were most popular.
