The ancient art of Origami has millions of enthusiasts. It is fun, both relaxing and challenging (depending on the project) and amazingly creative. It is stunning what you can create out of single sheet of paper!
Like any new craft there are basics to be learned. The preliminaries must be mastered before you move onto any more spectacular stuff.
So the way the basic bases and folds are taught could be the difference between you persevering with any Origami challenge or giving up.
There are a number of ways you can choose to learn:
- Read written instructions
- Follow drawn Line Diagrams
- Watch a craft how to video
- Any combination of the above
Once you have figured out how you learn best, it is just a matter of tracking down sites that can give you what you need.
Long ago, when teaching basic Origami, I realised it was this mix that was most likely to get people learning fast.
Of course, if you have got an expert to watch that is best, but video comes equal in my opinion as you can watch difficult bits over and over until you have got it.
So if the video has been shot right you will be watching the expert demonstrating as you would do it You will not have to turn things around in your mind. You see it being done the way you will do it too. It is much less confusing, and the sign of a really good teacher who has seen that the over-the-shoulder shot is more important than a glamorous studio.
You should also have carefully written explanations of the number of techniques involved. The words should be easy to understand and the layout easy to get your head around. It makes it quicker for you to spot where you are.
Finally, line diagrams can be helpful. It is a different way of putting things but it can give you a clearer of view of the steps involved.
If all these parts are included in your folding project then you will find it easy. But any combination will help you to make an Origami project to be proud of.
