The Iguazu Falls are the biggest waterfalls in the Americas and one of the biggest tourist attractions Argentina outside of the capital city, Buenos Aires.
The waterfalls are an impressive natural wonder, separating the nations of Brazil and Argentina in true natural style. As the water cascades over the rock, the spray creates rainbows in the sun, with birds playing kamikaze over the edge.
The many falls spread over a distance of over one and a half miles long, making them a truly wonderful site from either nation.
However, the towns and parks around the falls have much to offer after your visit to the falls.
In Argentina, the Iguazu Falls are surrounded by the Iguazu National Park. Which, while protecting local wildlife and fauna, also offers a number of nature and adventure orientated activities.
What to do?
The Great Adventure Trip takes you on the back of a decommissioned military vehicle through the rough and rugged paths through the thick forest down to the river docks at the Iguazu River. You are then able to go by boat up to the falls themselves, getting up close and personal with the gushing water.
The Nautical Adventure Trip will not give you the chance to explore the forest, but gets you up and close to the falls, so you can see the 'Devils Throat' amongst others.
The Jungle Safari takes you on a safari along the Yacarata Jungle Trail in specially designed 4 x 4 vehicles. You will be able to explore the jungle from the comfort of your seat and take great pictures of local plant and animal life. Also look out for insects and spiders that you can find along the route.
The Ecological Stroll will take you from the Devils Throat train station on a stroll to explore the upper delta region of the falls. The tour takes you on a walk and then you can get on a boat to explore the calm before the storm of the falls.
Adventure Activities
You can also undertake a number of adventure activities in the area. One of the most common is the tour that takes you Water Rafting. The tour for both new and experienced rafters allows you to start at the bottom of the falls and then follow the river for about forty minutes
Tree climbing and rock climbing are also a good way to build confidence and challenge yourself while on vacation. The size of the walls vary so you can set you own personal goals and challenges. Heights vary from between 10 and 30 meters and all the required equipment is included.
For people wanting more of an adrenaline rush, you can go for a zip-line/rappel experience over the river at a height of over 55 meters.
Calmer Activities
For guests wanting a calmer trip to the area there are a number of other excursions including a trip to the Iguazu Botanical Gardens, the impressive Three Frontiers landmark marking the frontiers of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay as well as the local Orchid Garden.
