Many people don't see the need to have a better relationship with their dogs. What they don't understand is that the more training we provide our dogs, the stronger the bond with them they will have. The more time spent training them equates to a better relationship between your dog and you. Not only will your dog be learning something, but its behavior will begin to get better as well. Dogs need attention to keep them happy. It doesn't matter what kind of attention you give your dog ( as long as it isn't negative ) they will love you for it.
Having a good relationship with your dog is a good thing, but you must be careful not to make mistakes. For example, you may enjoy coming home and having your dog greet you at the door giving you kisses and jumping up to say hello. But does your company enjoy the same response? I doubt it. Why would anyone want a dog jumping up on them. What you see as affection, someone else will interpret as bad behavior.
You can teach your dog that they can have it both ways. Jumping up to greet you when you first come home is okay, but jumping up on someone else is wrong. That way when you do have company, they won't get upset or bothered that your dog jumps up on them and your dog will be happy knowing that it pleased you by not jumping up on them.
There is no need to spend your hard earned money sending your dog to a trainer. You can get more benefit by training your dog yourself. The bonds between you and your dog will grow stronger, and it will be a much happier dog knowing that you care.
