subject: Five Things Your Next Mobile Phone Should Have [print this page]

With Christmas less than two weeks away, it's highly likely that you're being pestered off your entire family for ideas of what they can buy you for presents.

Chances are you'll have asked for some CDs, a few books, a computer a game or two and maybe a few pieces of clothing.

All items that you can be specific with, there's a good chance that a lot of people have also asked for a mobile phone.

If you're one of these people and have simply told your parents or partner that you're after a new mobile, it's strongly recommended that you go speak to them immediately and ask them to hold on for a few days.

The reason behind this is that with so many different mobile phones on the market, all of which have a variety of different features, it's important that you're specific in what you want the phone to have to ensure that the one you receive meets all of your needs.

And if you aren't actually sure what your next phone should have, take a look through the following five points, all of which are features that any modern mobile phone should possess.

1. A good quality camera - cameras have been available on mobile phones for several years now and have developed continuously, meaning it's now possible to buy a mobile phone with a better camera than if you were to buy a stand alone digital camera.

However, there is still a substantial amount of mobile phones on the market that possess a poor quality camera and therefore it's strongly recommended that the camera on your next phone has both a flash and the ability to take photographs of at least three megapixel quality.

2. Internet access - one of the best mobile inventions is without doubt mobile internet, as it allows you to access the World Wide Web wherever are you are in the world.

Whether it's a standard 3G internet connection or the ability to connect to a wi-fi network, ensuring that your next phone has internet access is an absolute must.

3. Touch screen - something that not everyone can get to grips with at first, the reason why a touch screen phone is recommended is not just for the fact that the majority of high quality phones are now produced with a touch screen, but also because a phone with a touch screen is a phone with a larger - and usually better - screen than those with a standard keypad.

4. Upgradable memory - one of the downsides of having a modern phone that allows you to take photos and surf the web is that it can become full a lot quicker than an older phone.

To solve this problem, a lot of mobile phones are built with the ability to upgrade their memory, meaning you can often take the capacity of the phone from a small 64 megabytes to four or eight gigabytes with ease and relatively cheaply, too.

5. Robust casing - if you've got a mobile phone that is top of the range, the last thing you want to do is drop it and it break it. It might not seem like something important initially, but it's advised that your new phone has a robust casing to protect its sensitive - and expensive - internal workings.
