While wrist pain may seem to be an insignificant problem for those who are not experiencing it, sufferers may beg to disagree. Wrist pain can be serious to an extent that physical activity may be impossible for a while. Having no idea concerning the source of wrist pain may be frustrating, but once diagnosis is made, applying some home remedy may alleviate the condition to a certain degree.

Since wrist pain may only be an indication of a more severe medical condition, it would be best not to diagnose the problem yourself. You can however perform some test to find out how serious the condition is. Simply move both your wrists in circular motions and observe at what point the pain is most severe. You should also be aware that there are two possible wrist pain causes; carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist tendonitis.

There are different ways to treat wrist pain depending on what is causing it. For one, wrist pain can be lessened with the help of an exercise ball. The squeezing action actually helps stretch hand muscles and nerves, alleviating the pain felt on the wrist and even the arms. Cold compressions works wonders too. In fact, the more you ice your wrist, the higher the chances you have of getting rid of the pain.

Never commit the mistake of overexerting your hands and wrist joints by engaging in physical activity while the pain is still present. The pain is only a reminder that your wrist needs some more time to rest. Take a break from your regular exercise routine even if its as simple as push-ups. Lifting weights and heavy items is also not advisable for people with wrist pain as it can aggravate the condition.

Given that wrist pain may and can be an effect of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, it would be wise if you practice good ergonomics especially if youre working in front of the computer and typing on the keyboard all day long. To prevent the development of CPS, see to it that you are using ergonomically-designed keyboard and mouse. Moreover, make sure that your arms are on a rested position all the time while typing and using the mouse. Most importantly, take a break every 30 minutes to 1 hour just to stretch.

A rule of the thumb in treating wrist pain is applying cold compress at the moment the pain occurs. Cold compress promotes blood circulation which helps reduce the pain. For cases however that cannot be treated with simple home remedies, the help of a professional is advised.
