Hello My Name is Eddie Z, I've been trading the stock market and other financial markets for the more than 20 years. Additionally I have been building, testing and configuring trading computers and stock trading computers for traders, stock brokers and fund managers during the same time frame. As a full time electronic markets trader and computer nerd, I can offer traders a unique perspective into trading computers.
A question I hear all the time is: What the importance of the power supply in a trading computer or a stock trading computer? It's a great question and I think very few builders of trading computers and stock trading computers take this issue seriously enough. The power supply is the one component of a computer that has issues most often. Most computer manufactures will tell you it's the component they replace the most. In fact, most builders use substandard power supplies in an effort to save money. They are willing to take the risk that the power supply will need to be replaced because it doesn't cost them much to do. There are actually power supplies on the market that cost less than $10.00! And builders would rather replace that than use a good quality product. As a trader you can't risk losing your power in the middle of the trading day! So it's really important to know what you are getting.
Some top brands in power supplies include Thermaltake and Ultra. Personally, I feel that the warranty the manufacturer is willing to give on a product is good indicator of how much he has invested in the design. Thermaltake power supplies offer a 5 Year Warranty and the Ultra Power Supplies have a Lifetime Warranty! Who can beat lifetime! I have had an extremely good experience using these brands in my trading computer builds.
Other top rated brands of power supplies include Cooler Master, Corsair & Roswill.
In conclusion, it's extremely important to purchase a top quality power supply. Stick with the top brands and manufactures who back their products with a good warranty and you won't get in trouble. A warning to the wise: question any trading computer, stock trading computer or day trading computer builder who is not willing to reveal the brand and warranty on the power supply. This usually means they are using inferior products and you run the risk of having problems within the first few years. They are just trying to maximize profit.
In later articles I will examine the other critically important components of the Ultimate Trading Computer. If you are a trader, it's of the utmost importance that you know what components go in to your machine so that you don't get ripped off due to lack of information. There are trading computer companies out there that are willing to take advantage of traders who don't do their research!
