While it sounds kind of pointless to have a web cam without sound, some web cam manufacturers try to save money by not including a microphone. Therefore, you should check the box to see if it is supposed to have sound.
It's also possible your web cam has no sound because the microphone was not initialized properly. This happens a lot with laptops that have a built in microphone and a plug-in web cam.
The web cam may be trying to use the laptop's mic instead of your webcam mic or vice versa. Play around with both of them to see which one works best for you.
Games and No Sound
Some games like the very popular Bejeweled need the sound for the game to work right. While you can technically play the game without sound, it just doesn't play the same without it.
The first thing you need to do when your game is silent is to check the options screen. Often times, you can turn off both ambient sound and music during the game. However, there is often another option altogether that lets you mute all audio effects. Check all these settings to make sure none of these are turned down or muted.
When no sound on your computer is working, it is a sign the sound cards are corrupted or out-of-date. This will leave you with two options. You can either update all the sound cards one by one until you find out which one(s) are corrupted, or you can update them all at the same time.
Updating the cards one-by-one takes time but it is the only way you can do it manually. To do this, you will need to check your Device Manager to see which sound cards you have. Then you will need to search for each of these cards on the Internet and download the new cards.
After you download the drivers, locate the drivers on your computer and double click them. This should automatically start the installation process. If they do not automatically install, go back to the Device Manger, right click the device and click update driver.
