Your San Diego Vacation The Best Timing Possible

San Diego is often called America's Finest City. Such announcements are obviously full of fluff, but that isn't to say that the city certainly isn't high on the list. Still, this doesn't mean every month in San Diego is great and you might really be surprised to learn the worst month to come.

Many people assume San Diego is hot given the endless pictures of people on the beach and such. It really never is. The worst it gets is usually a couple of weeks in August when temperatures get into the 90s. To give you a better point of reference, most homes in the city don't have air conditioning.

No, San Diego is not a place where you will find high temperatures. The temperatures here are temperate, but consistently so. The coldest it gets is in the 60 in the winter and even that usually means it is 67 degrees or so. Given this, you can visit San Diego much of the year without worrying about major temperature extremes.

So, when is the best time to plan your vacation? Well, most kids are out of school in June, so isn't this the best month to come? Actually, it is the worst if you want to go to the beach. San Diego suffers through something known as June Gloom. The coast is essentially socked in by a cloud cover every day. If you are lucky, it might burn off for an hour or so, but that is it. It can really ruin a vacation.

The best time by far to come to San Diego is September through October. The air is warm, the beaches are not packed and the ocean water is 70 degrees or above. It is heaven on earth. If you have kids, these periods may be really tough. A good alternative is to come in August. The temperatures can be almost uncomfortably hot, but the ocean is there to cool you off.

It is pretty hard to go wrong with a San Diego vacation. That being said, the best time to come is definitely in September or October if you have the option.
