Dymo Label writer Label Printer Review

This label printer is a very cute little printer and is also supplied with some great labeling software called Dymo Label 8 that comes on a CD. The Dymo Labelwriter 450 Turbo is powered by a mains power adaptor and comes with a USB cable, a quick start guide, a head cleaning card and a roll of address labels. This label printer must be used alongside a personal computer.

When you launch this label printer software, you will be very pleased at the layout you will be looking at. The design window is on the right with the formatting icons that run along the top, and there are three tab selections that are on the left.

Tab one offers a large selection of ready-made labels for mostly shipping and address labels. The other labels covered in the selections under tab one are the CD label, three file labels, one badge label and a variety of multi-purpose labels including one for the VHS spine.

Tab two makes available all the objects that are required to design a label from scratch, if you desire. These items can be dragged and dropped to the label for easy use. Among the objects that are included are the following.

v THE INTELLIGENT TEXT BOX - This object allows you to import addresses from your email address book.

v THE STATIC TEXT BOX - This allowed you to type fixed text.

v AN AUTOMATIC COUNTER FOR SERIAL NUMBERING You can choose any start number or increment.

v A DATE AND TIME STAMP You can use the 12 or 24 hour clock format before or after the text.

v A BARCODE STAMP There are 18 different formats to choose from.

v A SHAPE OBJECT You can insert a square or an oblong, an oval or a circle, a vertical or horizontal line. You can adjust the line thickness and the grey-scale interior fills.

v AN IMAGE OBJECT This allows you to insert a picture file or contents from Windows clipboard.

v CIRCULAR TEXT This will allow the text to follow a bottom arc, a top arc or a full circle.

v A GALLERY OF SYMBOLS There are 94 symbols that are there for your easy access.

Tab three is in the intelligent text box and it is the Address Book.

The printer itself does a great job and you can print font up to any size that will fit on the label. It prints at a speed of ten typical address labels in twelve seconds and then subtracting the two seconds for the download time, you can say it takes approximately a second to print each label.

There is no electric cutter but only a serrated blade that will cute smooth and clean. There is not an on/off switch either. The only explanation for this reasoning could possibly be that switching off the mains adaptor is considered safer. The "low power" mode will kick in if the printer is dormant for a period of time.
