One Secret to Maintaining Sparkling Clean Shower Screens

The shower. We use it daily to keep ourselves clean, to wake ourselves up in the morning, and to unwind after a long day at work. It is also our five minute getaway. A place where we can always find some alone time to refresh ourselves. A space where we can sing to our heart's content, imagining that no one or the whole world is listening. Yes, our shower could be likened to a little sanctuary hidden within our home.

Yet, when it comes to maintaining the glass panels in this little sanctuary, our thoughts are probably a little less tranquil. For example, how many times have you walked into a friend's bathroom and saw your reflection in their sparkling shower screens and thought, "I wish that my shower sparkled like that!". So we try every trick in the book to achieve those same results on our own shower screens, to little or no avail.

The truth of the matter is, the majority of us do not have the time or the correct knowledge to keep our glass shower screens gleaming. Plus, unless we have a cleaner regularly scrubbing the gritty build up off our shower screens our showers can be a less than desirable place to wash and relax.

So what is one solution?

Here is one solution that will make your life easier for you. It is a simple, environmentally friendly, and proven solution that will save you both time and money.

Firstly, it is important to remember that glass shower screens heat up and cool down quickly. That is partly why minerals build up and can eventually cause permanent damage to the surface of the glass. Your goal should be to prevent that build up of minerals with a few minutes of cleaning each week.

Secondly, it is important for you to avoid chlorine bleaches and other dangerous cleaning chemicals. They are bad for our environment and are also harmful to our own health.

The best natural solution takes only moments to prepare. It consists of water, white vinegar and an essential oil like tea tree or lavender. The vinegar kills germs and stops mould from growing for a short period of time. If you don't have white vinegar you can substitute it with a little vodka or another strong alcohol. The essential oils act as an antiseptic protecting you from nasty bacteria.

Now that you have these items, mix up a 50/50 solution of the white vinegar and water. One cup of each should be adequate for an average size shower. Then add a few drops of the essential oil.

Pour the solution into a plastic spray bottle. You can buy one at your local supermarket, hardware store or discount store for a couple of dollars. You can also reuse an old empty bottle.

Spray the solution generously over your glass shower screens and leave it for about 30 seconds.

After 30 seconds, buff the glass very thoroughly with a soft dry microfibre cloth until all the moisture has gone. You can purchase a microfibre cloth from any cleaning supplies store. This leaves the glass gleaming.

The same method can be used on your windows, balustrades, pool fencing and mirrors.

Remember, your goal should be to prevent the build up of minerals in the shower. Adopting this simple technique will help keep your shower screens glistening so you can always enjoy your little sanctuary.
