It would be nice if all television programs were worth our time, but there is no denying that this simply isn't the case. Television shows fail for lots of reasons and, in fact, most don't even survive to their second season. Sometimes this is easy to understand and other times it can be a mystery as to why a show just doesn't catch on.
Baseball and Bad Television Have Something in Common
Knowing when to give up on a bad television show can be tricky. This is especially true when the show was once good or even excellent, but began to decline. Sometimes the decline can literally happen within a few episodes, and other times it is a slow and steady turn. Just like a major league baseball player, a television show can simply perform a "little less" each year until, well, it's kind of sad by the end. One day you might look up from the television set and say to yourself, "Why am I watching this show? I am completely bored."
Just Give Me One More Chance
However, dropping an old favorite show while it is still on the air can be tough. After all, you have good memories with the show, and there is always that hope that it will return to its former glory. Yet, just like a major league slugger, it's unlike that this will ever happen. Even if it does, won't you just worry that the show will start going downhill again soon?
If It Hurts Just Give Up
In a sense, it is very easy to decide when you should give up on a television show. If you are not enjoying yourself any longer or you feel "stupid" for watching it, then you already know what you should do. Luckily, there is a lot of great content out there, especially if you have a quality service like Dish Network. Remember your options are not limited, but are in fact numerous and growing every television season. This means that there is no reason to stick with a show that you don't like. So if you are not enjoying a certain show, just find another program to watch. There is really no need to be loyal to a television show.
