If you have regular episodes where you have almost violent urges to go to the bathroom then you probably suffer from what is known as urge incontinence or overactive bladder. This can be a very disturbing experience and if not addressed you'll find yourself planning your life around the locations of bathrooms and that's really not a way to live.
This form of incontinence occurs when the bladder muscle spasms contracting the bladder and forcing urine through the urethra. There are a number of conditions that can cause the spasms ranging from diseases to nerve damage and that's one reason why you should see your doctor.

The typical treatment for urge incontinence has been bladder training which is nothing more than scheduling trips to the bathroom. But there has been a new development recently using a drug that is not readily associated with a weak bladder.
Botox, the stuff used to end facial wrinkles and create lips as big as Mick Jaeger's is now being used to treat overactive bladder. Botox numbs the area where it is injected so doctors have been using it in the bladder muscle. The muscle then can no longer sense the messages from the nerves that cause the spasm. No message, no spasm, no need to go.
But just as the facial treatments wear off so do the bladder injections. Botox has a useful life of about 3 months and then it's time for another injection directly into the bladder. Tests are being conducted to see if there isn't a way to turn this into a long term treatment rather than a temporary fix.
