Dont let someone steal your car with these 5 safety tips!

At one point or another we have been affected by thieves, or by someone trying to break into our new Ford car. Here a few helpful tips to ensure that this either a) doesn't happen or b) deters the crime from the start.

The main attributes to look out for that will help deter people from breaking into your car, include car alarms, car tracking systems, immobilisers, Mark etching and something we will call double checks'.

Highly effective, the car alarm is a wise choice if fitted properly because the deafening noise from the alarm and the flashing lights will draw unwanted attention to the opportunistic thieves. Ensure the settings are not too sensitive though- if your neighbours hear the alarm sounding all the time they may not think to signal for help if the car is actually being broken into.

Car tracking uses GPS to track cars; similarly to a SAT NAV would pin-point exact locations. Other perks include reduction costs on your insurance premiums if your car does get stolen- but is found using the tracking.

An immobiliser works electronically and prevents the vehicle from being driven. It may not stop the thief from breaking in- but it will stop the car being taken.

If you bought a new car from a Ford, London car dealers, have its windows mark etched. It wouldn't stop someone breaking in, but if you're new Ford is stolen, then you'd have a better chance of identifying it later. The same principal applies to special UV pens that are available.

Lastly, double check that you have actually locked the car, that there is nothing of value on show and that you have taken anything hugely valuable out.
