Nissan Motors plans to bring in an all-new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in India. This will be satisfied with the Nissan NV200 and it is expected that it will outwin the market leader Toyota Innova. The Japanese car manufacturer is also bringing in other car models from the established models globally.

According to Kiminobu Tokuyama, the Managing Director & CEO, in Nissan Motors India, it is looking on a launch of the new multi purpose vehicle in partnership with Ashok Leyland by 2012. This new MPV model is possibly the Nissan NV200 and will be set out to compete with other brands such as the Toyota Innova which is the current leader in the MPV segment. He also added that there will be a launch for Nissan Micra diesel version.

Furthermore, he also added that the company plans to spread across the Indian auto market. The Japanese car maker is going to increase the count of its car model in India by adding five car models by 2012. As of present, Nissan in India rules the car market with four car models namely, Nissa 370Z, Nissan Teana, Nissan Micra and Nissan X-Trail.

He also revealed the time span of the vast expansion of the companys production capacity from the current 2 lakhs car annually. Additionally, the company will invest about Rs 2,200 crore in the later stage of its expansion at the Chennai manufacturing unit.

Nissan Motors with Renault stamped on a memorandum of understanding with the government of Tamil Nadu so that the production facility at Oragandam will be started. This is near Chennai and the company placed Rs 4,500 crore for this in the seven years.

Nissan is also planning to expand vastly in India. The company is also planning to manufacture the Nissan Teana on semi knocked-down unit basis which is going to reduce the price of the car. As of present, the luxury sedan already comes in completely built-up unit in India which has an import duty of 60 percent. When the semi knocked-down units are to be released, the import duty will be reduced to 10 percent which will greatly affect the price of the car.
