There are apparently just twelve listed Marine Ecological Hotspots in the world, and just one within the Mediterranean Sea; this is found on part of the Montgo National Park, in Spain, and is centred on the Moraira coastline.
Extending from Cabo San Antonio at the north of Javea, across Moraira Bay towards Calpe's emblematic Ifach Rock, this coastal mix of sandy and rock beaches and craggy cliffs and headlands benefits from the purest waters and most diverse marine environment within the Med.
It is no surprise then that there are at least 25 recognised dive sites within this short stretch of fabulous coastline, 9 of these within Moraira's waterfront. The diversity of undersea flora & fauna and the variety of this marine landscape, provide an unmatched spectacle which can be enjoyed in crystal clear water providing 20-40m visibility, and temperatures averaging 27C summer, and 13-15C winter. The most usual species of marine wildlife to be found here include: rays, octopus, scorpion fish, seahorses, moray eel & barracuda, together with a rich diversity of brightly coloured soft coral, gorgonians and anemones.
Moraira has a fine choice of scuba centres providing PADI 5* instruction, and can offer courses from beginner to advanced/instructor, and also night diving etc. There are not too many opportunities to find affordable property available within a stroll of both the waterfront and a dive centre but here is one such opportunity:
