subject: Our Busy Lives Do Not Mean We Are Getting Proper Exercise [print this page]

Some of us wonder how we can justify taking time out of our busy day to bother with an exercise session. Just keeping up with modern day life often leaves us exhausted and adding anything extra would seem to add more to our stressful lifestyles.

But we would have to be living under a rock to not know how incredibly good proper exercise is for us physically, mentally and emotionally. How do we think we can deny what our body has been built for - vigorous physical activity - and get away with it without any negative consequences?

The only way our body can stay healthy is with the movement of our muscles which stimulate the release of hormones that rebuild and repair us right down at cellular level. When the brain no longer receives messages that strength is required the body goes into shut-down mode. Without constant vigorous muscular movement chemicals are released that tell the cells to decay - degenerate and die

We can avoid this premature and accelerated aging by doing what our body wants and needs to give us a high quality of health. By high quality it means that we have abundant vitality, vigor, energy and 'zest' for life. We do not simply drag ourselves through the day and collapse at night in front of the television. This is not high quality living.

We really do know that proper exercise should be part of our lives but sometimes with our 'busyness' our vision gets clouded and it is easy to lose track of what is really important in our lives. Being 'busy' and running around doing, being, getting and giving does not involve the 'work' that our muscles need to keep us healthy and disease free.

It is really easy to put proper exercise back into your life and reap the multitude of health benefits such as increased strength. This will mean you can power through your chores each day and still have energy left over for something you enjoy and something 'fun'. Some of the other benefits are reduced stress levels, a firmer more toned body with less body fat, and a decreased risk of disease which is important for longevity.

All of these benefits can be achieved with just 2-3 sessions each week of strength training exercise. Directly working the muscles with adequate resistance easily maintains strength in the shortest possible time-frame. You are not wasting time on low intensity endurance type activity that does nothing to build strength which is what we all need.

There is little opportunity to be truly active on a daily basis in our technology driven modern day lifestyles. Most jobs require little more than sitting all day so most people get little exercise at work and often leisure time is spent sitting as well.

Taking time out of the day for a proper exercise session is well worth it and every single moment spent doing it is a long-lasting investment in your health. If you are thinking about putting it off for another day think again as it will return your time investment back to you ten-fold and you will wish you had got started sooner.
