Classic Watches by Stuhrling Original for Busy Professionals

For more than four and a half centuries the watch industry has been an important part of the Swiss economy. At present, watches are Switzerland's third most popular export, after chemicals and machines. The Swiss domination of the international market for timepieces is so complete that they have inspired watchmakers the world over. In this article we will focus on an American watch manufacturer that has ties to the old traditions. When starting a business in a burgeoning industry, customers and clients often prize youth and energy over age and experience.

But when a business seeks to compete in an established industry, investors and customers alike expect experience. And few industries are as established as the watch industry. As we said, it's well into its fourth century. So, when Max Sturhrling IV announced that he was opening a new watch company in 1999, there were more than a few skeptics. It didn't even matter that Mr. Sturhrling had three generations of Swiss watchmakers in his family. He would have to make it on his own steam. He has. At present, the company that bears his name, Surhrling Original, is one of the fastest growing manufacturers of quality timepieces on earth. In the next few paragraphs we will take a look at a few of their top models.

Boardroom Emperor

Sure, it's a bold name, but this is a bold watch. The "Emperor" is actually a dual time zone watch, which means that it keeps time in two time zones. Like many timepieces from Struhrling Original, the Boardroom Emperor is an automatic watch. The company's decision to invest in automatic movement technology may have something to do with the founder's ancestry. You see, automatic watches are far more complicated and less popular than quartz watches. A quartz watch is cheaper, more accurate, and electronic. The automatic, by comparison, relies on gears, springs, and jewels to keep proper time. The obvious advantage of automatic watches is that they last longer.

Because they rely on old-world craftsmanship rather than technology, a Quartz watch cannot possibly compare to an automatic when it comes to durability. Many consumers who invest in an automatic actually intend to pass it on to their children one day. But let us get back to Boardroom Emperor. The dial features a charcoal-tone Argent Guilloch hydraulically stamped open heart design. Again, this is an old-world technique that is only used on the finest high-end timepieces. Needless to say, it creates a distinctive look, even without the dual time display and mother-of-pearl inlay. The case is stainless steel and the leather strap is the perfect finishing touch for a stylish and sophisticated watch.

Phoenix Swiss Chronograph

Not all Stuhrling Original watches rely on automatic movement. In fact, many of their sportier numbers offer Swizz-quartz movement. While we may have rundown electronic watches earlier on, they do offer a few advantages. When it comes to sports watches, for instance, many people choose them because they want to record their running or swimming times. Perhaps they are training for a marathon or just trying to push themselves to get in better shape. Whatever the reason, they will need a more accurate timepiece.

And watches that offer quartz movement are more accurate than automatics. The discrepancy isn't glaring, often only two or three seconds per day, but when you are serious competitor you must have accurate times. With that in mind, the Phoenix Swiss Chronograph has a precise thirty-minute counter, which is more than enough for most sporting events that rely on speed. For longer competitions, like marathons, there is a 10-hour sub-dial that also keeps track of the date. The strap is rubber and the timepiece is water resistant up to 165 feet.

Water Sports Regatta Diver Watch

When it comes to diver watches, there's no need to be ostentatious. Sea creatures rarely pay much mind to fashion. The Regatta Diver watch adheres to this simple rule and the result is nothing short of understated elegance. With reliable automatic movement and an analog dial (no numbers), the watch is as traditional as they come.Like most sport watches, the Regatta Diver is tough. It offers scratch resistant Krysterna crystal and a stainless-steel case. It is water resistant up to 330 feet or 100 meters.

The classic analog dial also includes a date window beside the 6 o'clock hour marker. A three-row link bracelet made of stainless steel with a fold-over clasp gives the watch some much needed heft. For helping divers sink to the bottom, of course. The watch also has a second hand for keeping track of diving times and black hour indices. But our favorite decorative feature is the single Arabic numeral 12 at the top of the dial. It puts a modern twist on a classic design.
