Lightening a Dark Room

If your bedroom is a very dark space then it can often be difficult to rise and shine in the winter months, and the room could be very depressing. But there are some simple ways you can pep up the room without going to too much expense.

Pick light coloured bed linen or something white with large, bright patterns on to life the whole feel of the room while keeping the base colour very light. Another great idea is to opt for shimmery fabrics, as although minimal, they will reflect the light, causing the room to seem lighter. If you want the bed to further make the room brighter, choose a see through bed frame; for example something made out of caste iron rather than thick wood. The spaces between the rungs will give the illusion of a more open and light room.

By adding a wallpaper mural behind your bed it will keep the room light, but draw the eye to something bright and colourful. It also gives the room focus. If you have really thick and heavy curtains then use pullbacks to give the room more natural light, as the curtain will overshadow the window. If you can do without curtains then go for something like a roman blind that is light and see through, giving privacy but allowing the maximum light to flood through the windows.
