subject: Office Stories And Rumours Around The Water Cooler [print this page]

The office, a place of work, sometimes we love it, sometimes we hate it. But we have all probably been in an office environment before in our lives, who knows you may be in an office right now reading this article. There have been a number of changes to the office over the years; we have gone from the original cube farms where each individual had their own desk to an open plan format, but one thing that doesn't seem to change is the fact that every office has a water cooler.

The water cooler is a mystical place in every office, it is the place that people head for every hour to take a much needed display screen equipment break, it is also rumoured to be the place where all the office gossip is shared, where you can find out the juiciest gossip about your work colleagues. There have been several stories in the past of managers moving water coolers closer to their offices so that they can be part of office gossip and the latest ideas.

It is also believed that the use of this water can help people to maintain a healthy immune system. Chlorinated tap water can kill off healthy bacteria; drinking bottled water from a water cooler can therefore have beneficial effects on your health.

Another reason to drink water from the water cooler is to help you think. The body is made up of approximately 70 percent water, keeping your body properly hydrated helps to keep your brain functioning at the highest levels. Obviously other water based drinks can also help, but you body has to work harder to strip the extra ingredients out before utilising the water. If you drink the product with no added ingredients then your body can make efficient use of it.

It is recommended that you consumer between 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which may not sound like a lot but when you actually attempt to consume those levels of fluid it becomes a real challenge.

Water, like everything food or drink related should be consumed in moderation. Too little can be as bad as having too much, a women actually drowned from drinking too much water in a competition recently where the contestants were expected to control their bladder for as long as possible in the hope of winning a Nintendo Wii games console. Drinking in moderation is the key to a healthy body and mind. Now go and have a drink.
