subject: What Lies Ahead For The Electric Cigarette Industry [print this page] Never before has there been a product like the electric cigarette that threatened to set the tobacco industry on its end. People are purchasing electronic cigarettes by the thousands because they love the fact that the device can deliver the nicotine they want without having to actually smoke tobacco to get it. They do not inhale tar residue from the nicotine liquid that is used in the device. The chemicals that are also not involved with the nicotine liquid is a big selling point for tobacco smokers too.
Right now, even though tobacco smokers are so excited about this new product, it still lacks approval from the FDA. It also has a few other critics as well. Stop smoking groups are alleging that the electric cigarette could actually hinder some smokers from stopping completely since they will be tempted to continue using the electric cigarette instead of getting off of nicotine all together. Of course, those groups are entitled to their opinions just like electric cigarette users are entitled to theirs.
The majority of people that are now using the e cigarette are former tobacco smokers who could not manage to quit smoking previously. While the e cigarette does still provide nicotine, which is an addictive substance, the users have at least been able to leave behind some of the more deadly aspects of tobacco smoking. This is what the electric cigarette users are so happy about. Even though they might still be inhaling nicotine, there are a lot of other things they are no longer inhaling.
As to the future of the product, no one really knows for sure. One thing that is for sure is that if the electric cigarette is banned and tobacco is allowed to remain legal to buy, all of those electric cigarette users are very likely to go back to smoking tobacco. This would be a shame of huge proportions to say the least. Anytime you can eliminate at least some of the hazardous effects of something, that is a good thing. To ban electric cigarettes and entice smokers back to using tobacco would just be disgraceful when they could be using a product that is so much safer for them.
Perhaps the stop smoking groups should take this into consideration before they pass judgment on a product and an addiction they may not even really understand. A person should have the right to do as they choose as long as it is not infringing on the rights or harming others. As long as tobacco smoking is legal, surely the electric cigarette will not be doing as much harm as that and it is probably doing a whole lot of good.
