How To Break Off Your Bad Love Affair With Tobacco

Oh, it might just sound so silly to some people to refer to cigarette smoking as a bad love affair, but do you have a better comparison? When you have something in your life that you can love and hate all at the same time, it sort of does sound like a bad love relationship. It is something that you just crave to have even though you are absolutely positive it is very bad for you. This is exactly how it is for smokers. They can not seem to be able to stay away from cigarettes even though they are making themselves sick by smoking and they are often disgusted with themselves because they can not stop.

Perhaps if smokers began to treat their smoking habit as a relationship, they might be a little more constructive when it comes to breaking it off. Everyone knows that about the only way you can keep yourself from giving into the temptation of getting back with a lover is to stay away from them. The same might be said for cigarettes. The more you can separate yourself from seeing a cigarettes the better off you will be. Where smoking might be different is that you might have to give in to that temptation and smoke here and there. It is rare that a person can quit cold turkey without slipping up a few times. Some people choose to wean themselves off slowly, but sometimes this just prolongs the agony.

What do you do when you stop seeing someone that you have been involved with? You find other things to take the place of the time you spent with them. You have to do the same when you stop smoking cigarettes. You have to find something useful to fill in those times when you used to always smoke. Such as after meals, you might go for walks instead. On your breaks at work, read a book instead of hanging out with the other smokers. When you drive, drink water or juice, chew gum, anything but light a cigarette. Clean your car and make it smell really nice. It might help you to not want to stink it up again.

No one ever said that giving up cigarettes would be easy. Just like it is not always easy to give up someone you have been involved with, you have to be really sick of the situation. It should not be that hard to be sick of smoking cigarettes because they do not bring one positive thing to your life. Get determined before you attempt to stop, you are going to need all of the willpower you can muster. Once you have managed to get that bad old smoking out of your life, never look back. We all know how it usually turns out when you go back to a relationship you have broken off, it usually does not work out very well and you will just end up being sorry all over again.
