subject: Natural Antidotes For Dry Eyes [print this page]

Vision is the best gift given by god and individuals often fail to take proper care of eyes. Pollution is increasing day by day and is harmful for eyes. Here are few natural antidotes or remedies to maintain the moisture in the eyes and keep them healthy.

Apply almond oil and castor oil near the area of your eyes. Take medicated cotton and dip it in the oil. Then drain the extra oil and gently apply it on the skin above and below your eyes. It will make the skin soft and give a shinny look. This will help to retain moisture in the eyes.

You can also try applying paste of tomato puree and lemon juice with the combination of turmeric powder and lentil flour, which is orange in colour under your eyes. This will help you reduce your dark circles and will relax your eyes.

It is not a good practice to lubricate your eyes frequently. If you use lubricating ointments and gels on regular basis, then they will absorb the moisture from the eyes and will make your eyes dry. These chemicals are comparatively thicker than eye drops and can even blur your vision.

Another effective remedy for dry eyes is using tea bags. After tea bags are used, drain the extra water and cool them. Then close the eyelids and place the tea bags on the eyes for 30 minutes. You can also do the same procedure using a cotton ball. You need to soak them in the warm tea, when they are properly drenched place the cotton on the eyes. It will reduce the stress and maintain the moisture balance in eyes.

If you frequently go out in daytime, then both wind and sun can harm your eyes. Direct contact with them will not only dry your eyes, but will harm the structure too. Make sure that you always carry sunglasses or glares with you, which are of good quality.

Blink your eyes often. Watching television for long hours, sitting in front of computer for more time, constant driving or sewing can aggravate the mild cases in eye dryness. If you do not blink often, then moisture from your eyes will evaporate fast and can cause irritation in the eyes. If you blink often, then it will help you to restore the tear film in your eyes.

Eat a healthy diet. Have more amount of water in your daily diet. It will help in maintaining the moisture in the body. Eat food rich in vitamin C such as lemon and orange. Include the intake of green vegetables and food, which are high in proteins and zinc.
