Isla Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras in Central America. The other two islands are Guanaja and Utila. Roatan, the big island is the most populated of the three, with its capital at Coxen Hole.
The Bay Islands have their own identity within the nation of Honduras. The islands were occupied mostly by the British and its Afro Antillean population speaks English fluently and some don't even speak Spanish, the official language of Honduras.
This is the "Caribbean Best kept Secret" as per many Travel Magazines and publications. The islands are virgin and not yet invaded by crowds of tourists.
In Roatan you will find:
Idyllic white sandy beaches, like the ones of Sandy Bay, West Bay and Camp Bay.
Some of the world's best Scuba diving, since the island is surrounded by very large coral reefs. In the calm waters of the Caribbean you can swim, snorkel and enjoy all kind of water sports.
Verdant jungle covered hills where nature is enjoyed at its best like a visit to the Tropical Butterfly Park or the Iguana Farm.
French Harbour is a busy port and shipping center. The city is also host to most international banks with branches on the island. The ferry dock and its modern terminal are located halfway between Coxen Hole and French Harbour.
Many cruise lines offer a stop in Roatan on their Western Caribbean Islands Cruises and passengers enjoy a day of shore excursions or just like to walk around town or explore the island by themselves.
A visit to Isla Roatan Honduras is quite an experience. These three little sisters are different from each other and a visit wouldn't be complete without a visit to the smallest ones of Utila, the smallest and closest to the mainland and Guanaja the highest and wildest of the three.
Rotan Honduras is an undiscovered jewel waiting for you in the Western Caribbean. Think of it for Caribbean Honeymoons. It is ideal for Romantic Beach Getaways.
