subject: Replacing Bathroom Tubs [print this page]

Renovating your bathroom can be a very exciting project, particularly if you've chosen to do it yourself. You'll have the opportunity to create a room you can be proud of, while saving money in the process. One of the biggest parts of bathroom renovations is replacing bathroom tubs. With these simple instructions, you'll find you can easily replace your tub with a shiny new tub and know you did it yourself.

The first step is taking out the old tub. Shutting off your water supply is the first thing you'll need to do or you'll have a huge pile of water everywhere! Once the water is shut off, you can begin removing the hardware. Take care if you're planning to use the same handles and spouts. When the hardware is off, you can take the old tub out.

Tubs are very heavy so plan to have someone there to help with the lifting. If your bathroom is small, you may need to temporarily remove the toilet as well to avoid damage. Be careful that you don't damage the floor in the process, unless you're planning to replace your floor as well.

Installing your new bathtub is a simple process of doing everything you've just done with the old tub only in reverse order. You may want to check on any local regulations or codes in your city. Chances are there is none regarding replacing bathroom tubs, but you want to be sure.

Once the new bathtub is in place, it's a good idea to fill it up with water to ensure there are no leaks and that your tub will withstand being full without cracking your sealant. Once all the hardware has been secured in place, you can put on the sealant, be careful to remove any excess sealant. You now have a great looking bathtub and one that will enhance the dcor of the room.
