Are YOU Creating a Relationship with your Customers?

Social media and the Internet connects you (aka your company) with your customers and allows you to create a relationship.

I repeat, YOU and your customers. Not a marketing agency, not your nephew. Customers want to connect with you. But when you let someone else create your internet marketing content (ie, blog posts, YouTube videos, facebook posts), customers are connecting with that person, not you.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying don't hire a writer, videographer, or consultant. All of these can guide you towards polished content. If you have a blog, you can create a quick outline of what you want to cover and hand it over to a writer. A consultant can help you plan an effective social media marketing campaign. But don't hire someone and expect them to take care of everything. It won't work.

Building relationships with customers is like dating. Let's say you have a couple of dates over the next month. You wouldn't hire someone to go meet the person and go on the date, but you may ask your friend or dating specialist for advice.

A relationship won't grow unless you are actively involved, whether dating or running a business. So get involved with creating your content for your online marketing.

And don't use the excuse that you don't have time to be actively involved in social media. Your competition will find the time, and they will reap the rewards.
