Cystitis is a very commonly occurring disease that occurs more in women. This can be treated y following few measures.

Cystitis is also known as inflammation of bladder. It is basically a form of UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) or bladder infection. The infection of bladder occurs due to micro-organism such as a bacteria or virus. Cystitis is frequently occurring infection and comes next to respiratory infections in frequency. According to the National Kidney Foundation 0 to 20 percent of women have had at least one episode of Cystitis, and 80 percent of this group has had it recurrently.

There are many reasons for the occurrence of Cystitis. Though in some cases fungus or a virus has been found responsible, but mostly it occurs due to one of several types of bacteria. Among them the most common is Escherichia coli (E. coli), which has been accountable for about 90 percent of all urinary tract infections (UTI's).

Cystitis or the infection can occur in any part of the urinary tract. It can be dangerous for health if not taken care on time. In many cases if left unchecked, Cystitis spreads upward to the kidneys. This is called ascending UTI, where it can further cause fever, chills, and may turn death threatening.

Cystitis takes toll of about 6 million people all over the world per year or more. It can occur in any age group and in any gender. Yet, Cystitis is more common in women because their urethras (the passage from which urine exits the bladder) are short. This makes it easier for responsible bacteria or organisms to get from outside into the bladder. Typically, women are prone to Cystitis if they are sexually active or is careless with her hygiene habits.

Escherichia coli normally stay in the intestine and bowel without causing disruption. They naturally exist in our body, but once they make their way to the bladder, they start troubling. These bacteria tend to live better in warm, moist places. Hence the area around the urethra is a common breeding site and in search of favourable surrounding they move from their original place.
