Stylish, compact and fun: the new Mazda 2

With the economic woes the United States, and the world for that matter, has experienced in the last two years, we as a society are learning to do with less and still be happy. Although this concept seemed silly and impossible to adopt a mere 24 months ago, American's seem to have swallowed their pride and admitted that perhaps they had let their desires get a little out of hand. People across America are scaling down by learning to live with a little less house, a little less discretionary income, and even a little less vehicle too. For people still needing to downsize their vehicle who are residing in Lake Worth, used Mazda 2 or new Mazda 2 may be just the car to fit the bill.

The Mazda 2 is a car that runs perfectly well, looks chic enough, and offers a great value when it comes to the gas pump. Due to its low base price at just over $16,000, the Mazda 2 competes with other B-segment vehicles like the Honda Fit, the Toyota Yaris, the Nissan Versa, the Kia Rio, the Chevrolet Aveo and the Ford Fiesta. However, there's just something about this vehicle that makes this fact surprising. The Mazda 2 is better looking and, well, just plain looks more expensive than its competitors.

For starters, the front grille of the Mazda 2 is eye-catching. Depending on if you're a glass half full or a glass half empty person, the front grille can appear to be smiling or to be focused on taking out the competition. Either way, the interesting fashion in which Mazda designers have combined these two emotions begs the eye to look again in order to decide which exact emotion it is that the car is attempting to convey.

The engine under the hood follows the theme of just enough but not too much that is the new "American way." The engine is a 1.5-liter, four-wheel-drive, 5 speed manual transmission. This tiny but worthy engine pushes the little compact with 100 horsepower, which is plenty for around town and even acceptable on the interstate.

The Mazda 2 handles well too, which is another plus for using the vehicle to get around Lake Worth. Used cars like the Toyota Yaris or other competitors to the Mazda 2 just don't measure up when it comes to the amount of control on the road the 2 offers. In this respect, the Mazda 2 is no downgrade at all, but rather the stark opposite.

On the inside cloth seating is piped with red cording to add a little spice to the otherwise quiet (in a good way) interior. Again, all the necessities but none of the flair completes the inside of the Mazda 2. That means a stereo system with radio and CD player produce a nice sound, but there is no room for an in-dash nav. system. You'll have to mount your own Garmin. Plenty of room and a cushy backseat make for easy passenger travel.

Finally, the Mazda 2 fits the landscape of new America perfectly with its fuel efficiency. At a stunning 31 miles-per-gallon city driving and 35.5 miles-per-gallon highway, most Lake Worth used cars have no chance in keeping up. In Lake Worth, used Mazda or new, this little number won't break the bank once it is driven off the lots.
