subject: How To Make Use Of Cellulite Talk [print this page]

There are some unpleasant facts of aging that a woman simply must face and cellulite is one of them. Even the most pristine skin and the most pampered body will inevitably, invariably develop cellulite. But what you can do about it, is ensure it stays well away until a suitably dignified age.

Every so often the cosmetic industry comes together in a kind of cellulite forum, but despite impressive research and often promising results, they never seem to be able to agree upon a solution to the problem. One suspects, however, that the disagreements may have more to do with proprietary concerns than actual inability to offer effective treatment.

Why does it happen

Cellulite occurs when the fatty deposits located some way under the skin herniatethat is, push throughthe connective tissue that lies just under the skin. The problem rarely effects men because their connective tissues are much less pliable and there are far fewer fat cells stored below it.

Around 85% of women will develop cellulite some time after puberty, which is a rather intimidating statistic and puts paid to the myth that one can avoid it forever without treatment of some kind.

In addition, a man's collagen fibers are interwoven and stronger whereas a woman's tends to run in parallel and are weaker. The final result is that orange peel like texture that distorts the normal, smooth surface of the skin and can even result in large dimples or creases.

The role of stress

Interestingly, stress plays a significant role in the development of cellulite. This leads to a rather unpleasant catch-22 situation where stress can cause cellulite to occur and the appearance of cellulite can intensify stress, the process then becoming an unpleasant cycle.

Women quite naturally try to hide the appearance of cellulite and this can become something of a pathological obsession, whereby certain types of clothing can simply never be worn for fear of the unsightly condition becoming visible.

Treatments available

Maintaining a healthy diet and getting a lot of exercise are essential to preventing the appearance of cellulite for as long as possible. Eating a lot of fruit, carbohydrates that metabolize fast, avoiding fat and ensuring that you drink a lot of water are all important in preventing cellulite.

Surgery, as always, is a potential means of correcting the problem, but entails significant risks of its own. There is no guarantee that surgery will fix the problem completely and the possibility of additional scarring or development of uncomfortable scar tissue is very real.

Laser treatment and liposuction are some of the other methods worth considering, but even they have their downsides. Perhaps the most promising area of cellulite treatment lies within the realm of anti-cellulite creams, although their effects are usually much slower.
