The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) thru Environmental Management Bureau has launched major activities in line with Clean Air Campaign. November has been declared as Clean Air Month during the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) forum at the Philippine Information Agency. This month's theme is "Let's Tune Up To Clean The Air". Part of this month activities is to encourage vehicle owners and industries to control their greenhouse gases emissions in order to prevent further air pollution.
However, Spectrum Blue Steel Corporation (SBSC) believes that it is not enough to uphold Clean Air campaign by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Just like many environmentalists who continue to seek justice for the environment through fighting against coal mining industries and coal-fired power plants, SBSC also believes that burning of coal gradually kills our planet, our wildlife and even humanity. Extracting of energy through burning of coal must be replaced with other environmental technologies.
SBSC supports clean air projects even before it was launched in the Philippines. The company has formulated a strategy on energy production by de-carbonizing it using the revolutionary biosphere technology, a waste to energy system. The Biosphere technology is a gasification process wherein thermal decomposition of waste materials happens at elevated temperature and oxygen starved environment. This process produces mixed gas, also referred as synthesis gas rich in H2 and CO which is then fired to run boilers or gas engine for micro power generation.
Biosphere Technology contributes greatly in solving the environmental problems on energy production and waste management by destroying and converting waste materials into green energy. Furthermore, this technology can also be a key factor in conserving our natural resources. Since it uses waste materials to generate green energy, using the technology would allow countries to safely produce green energy without exploiting our natural resources. And like other renewable sources, it is also renewable according to the American Energy Policy Act of 2005 which confirmed energy-from-waste is renewable, and the Philippine Renewable Energy Law (RA 9513) of the Philippines.
Replacing coal-fired power plants and landfills with biosphere technology would mean a lot in global environmental conservation. This action may seem to be beyond anyone individual's capacity however SBSC believes that collaborative action would make it possible. Right now, SBSC continuous to encourage private and government sectors to adopt the technology in their community.
SBSC invites everyone to get involved and support not only the clean air campaign but also the advocacy of protecting our planet earth because the issue on air pollution and other environmental concerns is not only about destruction of our environment but harming what belongs to our future generations.
