subject: Path to the inner self [print this page] Path to the inner self Path to the inner self
I am the true self in the heart of every creature, and the beginning, middle, and end of their existence. (The Bhagavad Gita)
I am the Light that is in all things. I am all. All come forth from me, and all attained to me. Split a piece of wood and I am there. Pick up a stone and you will find me there. (The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas)
These two quotes speak of the same thing, but are written by different people at different times. They speak of our true self, our inner self. They speak of the Divine spark that resides in us all, and that resides within the universe and everything that exists, and in everything that does not exist.
This divine spark has many different names throughout many different cultures. The Hindus call it Brahman; the Christians call it God; others call it I AM. Such labels can help with ease of understanding, but become harder to follow for they mean certain things to so many different people.
Deep within our being is our inner self, or our divine spark of consciousness. It is this divine spark that permeates our entire existence, and unites us all through the same divine spark that is our consciousness.
Each and every one of us is all connected, and is all one. Some refer to this as Oneness. It is this divine spark of consciousness that unites us no matter what race, creed, or belief we may hold. We are all one. We are all the same. We are divine beings of light living a human life of experience.
What keeps us from knowing our true inner self, or our true being, is what many refer to as the ego. It is this ego that has caused us to relate to ourselves as "I," and see us as a separate being. The moment that we related to ourselves as "I" we slowly began to lose our true sight of who we were. We do not need to forget about "I" but we can know that there is so much more to us than "I." While we are spiritual beings of light we are also physical beings as well. We must also at times take care of ourselves in the physical. Ignoring yourself to better your spiritual side will only result in a short physical life. We must seek the balance of our bodies, mind, and spirit.
There are many that will seek to keep us from our divine selves, and tell us that we need to walk a certain path, or accept a certain teaching to be allowed into this divine self. This divine self is open to all, and rejects no one. Regardless of what you believe or do not believe. There is no right way, or wrong way.
The divine spark that resides within us is pure consciousness. It is the essence of us all. It is this pure consciousness that has no beginning or end. Each and everything that has ever existed has always been a part of this consciousness. This consciousness resides in every-thing and no-thing.
Throughout time we have forgotten it was there. It's always been there. Picture it as a child slumbering deep within you just waiting for you to wake it up. The difference is it is not a sleep. It has always been there waiting for you to be one with it.
There are many ways that have been used to know this divine spark. Some find mantras to be easy for them. Such as sit still and know I am God. Others have found it easier to focus on the "I AM" presence. As I have said earlier there is no right or wrong way. Find the way that works best for you. Experiment if you'd like. Try them all.
All you really need to do is focus on your inner being your true self. Know that you are consciousness. Let your mind and your will surrender to your divine will and mind. Allow this consciousness to fill your entire being. Know that you are ONE with the all. Focus in on your divine spark of consciousness that resides within your heart. Focus in on being one with the entire consciousness. Focus in on being one. When you have focused in on this consciousness allow it to fill you. Do not force it. Let it be gradual. When you are done allow your mind to slowly return back the moment that you are in. Allow yourself to return to your body, and your thoughts. Allow yourself to become centered back into your being. Allow yourself to ground back to earth, and slowly return to your everyday life. With the knowledge of knowing you are one with the divine consciousness and are ready to tackle anything that is waiting for you.
