subject: Georgia Residents Can Stay Safe With Added Home Security Measures [print this page]

Even though many Americans think of life in the South as slow-paced and easy-going, the reality is that residents face higher crime rates than in many other areas of the country. The greatest problem is that the economy just isnt strong enough to offer residents of states like Georgia enough opportunities to make a decent living. Industries have come and gone, but corporations are always looking to locate themselves where they can pay cheap wages. So even when Georgia residents have had access to jobs, many of them have been paid small minimum-wages, which are some of the lowest rates in the country. Unfortunately, all of this unemployment, underemployment and low wages have caused crime rates to be higher in Georgia than in many other states. Still, Georgia residents can live safely and happily if they take some of these easy steps to increase their home security.

5. Talk to your neighbors. One of the best ways to decrease crime in any area, is for neighbors to come together to build a strong community. When neighbors know each other well, then they care for each others safety much more than they otherwise would. By getting to know your neighbors and building strong bonds, they are much more likely to help you if they notice something wrong at your house. In addition, you and your neighbors may want to start a neighborhood watch group, which will allow each of you to take turns increasing the home security of your entire neighborhood.

4. Keep your windows shut. In the hot summer months, many Georgia residents like to open the windows of their house to let a nice breeze through. While you are at home, leaving your windows open is okay, although it still decreases your home security, but while you are out, leaving them open is a big risk. Open windows give thieves the perfect opportunity to easily enter your house because all they have to do is cut through a screen and then jump inside. Dont leave that opportunity open for thieves.

3. Purchase, install and arm a home alarm system. These alarms provide the maximum level of protection the world has ever seen. With both the latest technological detectors and gadgets, and well-trained and high-experienced private security professionals, houses that are protected by alarms benefit from the best services available and are much less likely to be broken into.

2. Warn potential criminals to keep them away from your house. You can do this by installing signs that mention that your property is protected by a home alarm, by turning on bright lights outside of your house at night, and by installing a fence that is difficult to climb over. In each of these ways, you can discourage people from thinking your house is an easy target.

1. Contact your local officials about your concerns. Georgia politicians have the responsibility to try to increase employment rates in the state and to lower crime as well. By pressuring your politicians, you let them know that voters care about what results they actually produce. You can help make Georgia more livable for everyone.
