subject: Making A Marimba With PVC [print this page] Making A Marimba With PVC Making A Marimba With PVC
If you have not read my previous post, I should probably let you know that I am on a quest to make my own marimba which is quite exciting. I successfully got my brother to work with me on making the marimba using PVC and other stuff which are easily available. Before I go further though, if you are interested in doing the same I would recommend this book.
So there we were ready to make the marimba with all the materials ready. We were just cutting the PVC, well, he was cutting the PVC as I was preparing snacks, when suddenly the PVC pipe from our gutter crashed down. It was windy and that piece was quite old so no surprises there. But since we have some PVC for the marimba on hand, we have to postpone the marimba-making and use it to repair the damage done by the wind.
Anyway, we will be done with all the cutting stuff tomorrow and we can then move on to building the marimba frame. This is a great activity as we could exactly what we are doing thanks to the book. Also, since my brother is gifted musically, he can tune the marimba for me. This I think is an advantage of having a book guide you with making your own marimba, especially with a section about tuning it. even without my brother's help I can at least make a decent work of tuning it. But since he has promised to help me do it, I would be more than glad to leave the tuning to him.
After the marimba made from PVC is done, I would then have to worry about learning to play it. And once I have mastered it, I'll make sure to record a video and post it on YouTube.
